AAF Houston is proud to announce Ray Schilens, President/Partner RADIO LOUNGE-Houston, as our 2025 Silver Medal Recipient.
When Ray Schilens started in the business, tape splicing was an art form and you either nailed the entire production with the perfect take, or you started from scratch. One thing that hasn’t changed since the days of analog recording is the creativity behind the message.
As President and Partner of Houston-based RADIO LOUNGE, Ray’s commitment to quality media content has earned him much respect by his contemporaries over the past three decades. Overseeing all facets of several broadcast production facilities, and an organizational creative think tank which creates literally thousands of spots each year for broadcast and digital platforms, Ray has vast experience in various areas of broadcasting, advertising, marketing, and business leadership. Ray’s career in radio took him around the country, from Detroit to Miami, and of course Texas, from on air, programming and operation management in Rock, Oldies, Soft AC, Contemporary Christian… you name it. His combination of creativity, dedication to quality, and his strength in client relationships has driven his successful career.
Ray has served The American Advertising Federation tirelessly for many years, in many capacities. A long-time board member, he served as President in 2021-22. He also co-chaired and produced Houston’s American Advertising Awards Competition and Awards Show for multiple years. And he is the creator and host of Ad Speaks Houston, a podcast and weekly radio show on iHeart Media as well as the ADTENTION podcast for AAF’s District-10. Both shows are rated the top 20 podcasts on advertising.
The Silver Medal Award, first granted locally in 1962, is part of the American Advertising Federation’s Silver Medal program and recognizes men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence, and responsibility in areas of social concern.
